Our client, a prestigious and innovative beauty and wellness company headquartered in the vibrant metropolis of Los Angeles, California, US , is seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced Lead Cosmetic Chemist. This senior scientific role will spearhead the research, development, and formulation of groundbreaking cosmetic and skincare products. You will lead a team of chemists and formulators, driving innovation from concept to commercialization. The Lead Cosmetic Chemist will be responsible for ingredient research, stability testing, product efficacy evaluation, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards (FDA, international regulations). Key duties include developing novel formulations, troubleshooting formulation challenges, and optimizing existing product lines for enhanced performance and consumer appeal. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of cosmetic science, raw materials, and formulation techniques, coupled with excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills. A strong grasp of global regulatory landscapes and a passion for the beauty industry are essential. Key Responsibilities: Lead the formulation and development of new cosmetic and skincare products from concept to launch. Conduct in-depth research on new ingredients, technologies, and market trends. Develop innovative and stable formulations that meet performance, aesthetic, and cost objectives. Oversee and conduct stability, compatibility, and efficacy testing of new and existing products. Troubleshoot formulation issues and provide solutions for product optimization. Ensure all formulations comply with relevant regulatory requirements (FDA, international). Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Product Development, Operations, and Quality Assurance. Mentor and guide junior chemists and formulators, fostering a culture of scientific excellence. Prepare technical documentation, including formulation records, research reports, and product specifications. Evaluate and recommend raw materials and suppliers. Stay current with advancements in cosmetic science, formulation techniques, and industry best practices.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in cosmetic formulation and R&D. Proven experience in leading formulation projects and managing scientific teams. Extensive knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, their functions, and interactions. Strong understanding of surfactant chemistry, emulsion technology, and polymer science. Proficiency with analytical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, FTIR) is a plus. In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for cosmetic products in major global markets. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
