We are seeking a dedicated and talented Product Development Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will support the Product Development team across all stages of the product innovation lifecycle—from early market research and concept ideation through commercialization and post-production quality evaluation. This role plays a critical operational function in maintaining organization across submissions, competitive research, internal testing, vendor coordination, and product documentation.].

As a member of the Product Development team, you will collaborate with cross functional teams and report directly to the Executive Director to ensure development timelines remain organized, product submissions and feedback are properly tracked, and samples are evaluated and documented accurately. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects within a fast-paced product innovation environment.

This role is primarily onsite and requires the ability to work from the office or contract manufacturer locations five days per week. Occasional remote work may be permitted based on business needs.

ONSITE: This role is classified as exempt from the Fair Labor Standard Act’s overtime requirement, and is open to candidates based in Los Angeles, CA. While the position is primarily in-office, it follows an onsite schedule requiring in-person work at Culver City, CA 90230. The role requires working in PST hours, so candidates located on the West Coast are preferred. A reliable internet connection and a dedicated workspace free from significant distractions are essential for remote work.

What You’ll Do

Essential Job Functions

Market Research & Concept Development

  • Conduct competitive analysis on market trends, ingredient innovations, and competitive product launches.
  • Research competitive products to support product briefs and shade lineup development.
  • Assist with product concept brainstorming and mood board development aligned with brand identity and category trends.
  • Maintain and organize the competitive product library and product closet.
  • Research and purchase relevant competitive products for benchmarking and internal product evaluations.
  • Ensure competitive product resources remain organized and accessible to the development team.

Product Lifecycle Support & Evaluation

  • Support the product development process from initial concept and brief writing through commercialization.
  • Maintain submission logs and track lab samples, formula revisions, and batch submissions.
  • Label, catalog, and organize incoming product submissions to ensure clear version tracking and accessibility.
  • Coordinate internal panel testing and assist the team in evaluating product performance, swatches, and application results.
  • Assist with first production batch reviews under Executive Director guidance to establish product standards.
  • Review finished goods retains to ensure quality and consistency with approved specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Photography team to review product imagery and swatches for accuracy.
  • Provide Pantone references and shade descriptions to ensure consistency across product assets.
  • Coordinate vendor meetings, product review sessions, and trade show appointments.
  • Prepare product pulls, samples, and competitive references for vendor presentations and internal meetings.
  • Track and document meeting notes and vendor discussions.
  • Assist with meeting recaps and documentation for the product development team.
  • Capture photos from vendor presentations for internal reference and documentation.
  • Coordinate internal sampling needs and vendor sample requests.

Organization & Administrative Management

  • Maintain organization across product closet inventory, competitive library, and development samples.
  • Track inventory levels and assist with replenishment of competitive products, play sets, and development resources.
  • Organize and label master bins, retains closets, and filing systems by project and vendor.
  • Archive finalized projects and dispose of rejected or outdated submissions.
  • Assist with tracking competitive research purchases and departmental administrative expenses.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed to support departmental goals.
  • Provide backup coverage for team members during absences or peak workload periods.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks or clerical duties as assigned.
  • Support cross-departmental efforts or collaborative initiatives when required.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Product Development, Marketing, or related field (preferred)
  • Approximately 2 years of related industry experience (preferred)
  • Foundational understanding of color theory and cosmetic product development
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple development projects
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the following physical capabilities:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, twist, and squat to adjust or position equipment, cameras, or set up for events.

  • Must be able to focus on detailed work for extended periods, which may lead to eye strain or fatigue.

  • Must be able to carry and transport promotional or sales materials.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, often time-sensitive environment.
